Gateway Classic Cars is presenting this 1985 Mazda RX7 in the Milwaukee Showroom. While there have been many marvels in engineering among the modern automobile, none have been quite as unique as the Wankel engine, also known as the rotary motor. Beginning in the late 1800s the rotary engine had applications in things as small as bicycles and evolution found the in motorcycles in the earyly 1900s but it wasnt until the year 1929 that a German engineer by the name of Felix Wankel developed a version of the rotary engine that incorporated an eccentric rotary design. This utilized an eccentric shaft that made a constant movement of a triangular shaped rotor being propelled in the off space between the rotor and the housing through the principle of combustion. Mazda undertook the concept when they took up a study contract on the Wankel in 1961 for automotive applications from the practical all the way up to racing due to its extremely high revving capabilities associated with the design of the engine. The fist RX7 was made the year 1978 and a cult following of one of the greatest Japanese vehicles was born. The 1985 year, which this is, came armed with a 12A Rotary engine under the hood, which incorporated a hardened housing and variable induction ports. The unique piece of engineering is bolted to a 5-speed transmission which offers the true feel of what it means to drive a pinnacle of performance JDM history. The RX7 is equipped with air conditioning, AM/FM radio with Cassette, power windows, power steering, and a manual sunroof to let a summers breeze in. The Plymouth De Luxe was produced from 1946 to 1950, with the top trim line being the Special De Luxe model. The first post-war Plymouth Deluxe rolled off the assembly line on October 22, 1945, at the dealership people arrived in droves to get their name on the list for a brand new car. Plymouth literature claimed there were 50 updates on their post-war model that improved upon the pre-war model. For the 1946-48 model years, the 3.6L Inline Six was boosted to 95hp. This engine was produced from the 1920s to the 1970s, proving that if it isnt broke you shouldnt fix it this long-lived engine became a Legendary motor. Plymouths tag line during this post-war era was “Outside and in, its a completely new Plymouth. Compare it feature for feature. Sit in it. Ride in it. Drive it. Then youll surely agree. This 1979 MG Midget is a three owner car with 50,539 actual miles on the odometer and is presented in the original British Racing Green paint with a tan vinyl interior. It has a new vinyl top with tonneau, new triumph Spitfire fuel pump, new battery, new brake calipers, brake lines, gas tank, windshield, and shifter knob. The carburetor has been rebuilt. Radial tires wrap original 13 MG wheels. The receipts for the parts are included, as are several maintenance records. The MG Midget 1500 was produced from 1974 to 1980. Anti-roll bars were added to assist with handling. The previous A-Series engine was replaced by the 1493 cc unit from the Triumph Spitfire, coupled to a modified Morris Marina gearbox with synchromesh on all four gears. The increased displacement of the new engine produced more torque, with horsepower being similar to the previous version at around 65 HP. The increased output combined with taller gear ratios resulted in faster acceleration (12 seconds 060 compared to 13 for the 1275 cc version) and a top speed of just over 100 mph.
